Tributes paid to 4 legends of Indian cinema at IFFI

Panaji, Dec 1 (UNI) Four legends of the Indian cinema --Naushad, S D Burman, Satyajit Ray and B R Chpra-- were today paid tributes at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) here when documentaries on their lives and works, as well as their films were screened.

The documentary on Naushad, 'Naushad Ali--A Musical Journey', was directed by Dinesh Kumar Prabhakar of the Films Division.

The beginning of the film showed living legend Dilip Kumar reciting the couplet, ''Hamare Baad Bhi Yeh Afsane Bayan Honge, Baharen Phir Se Aayengi, Par Ham Na Jaane Kahan Honge (These stories will be told even when I am gone, spring will return, but I don't know whether I will be there to enjoy it)'', summing up the feeling of the loss that overtook the film industry on his death, and also of the other great figures of the Indian cinema.

Presenting his film, Mr Prabhakar said he would not like to say anything about his work except that it was a humble effort to pay tribute of a music directcor to a music legend.

The documentary was followed by the screening of Naushad's musical hit Bharat Bhushan starrer 'Baiju Bawra,' for which Naushad had won the Filmfare Award.

Besides, screening of 'Pather Panchali' was a real treat for the lovers of Satyajit Ray cinema.

In a tribute to another legend of the Hindi film music Sachin Dev Burman, his film 'Jewel Thief,' whose songs created waves in the 60s, was screened.

Among the highlights of today's screenings was a tribute to living legend Br Chpora, 'BR--Har Daur Mein Naya Daur', directed by Vinai Vairale.

Other great figures of the cinema who were paid tributes at IFFI here so far included Prithviraj Kapoor, Nadira, Bhanumathi, Dr Rajkumar, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Padmini, Praveen Babi, Srividya besides Shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan.
