Curfew relaxed for 2 hrs in Aurangabad and neighbouring areas

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Dec 2 (UNI) Curfew has been relaxed for two hours from 1600 hours to 1800 hours in Aurangabad as the situation has started limping back to normalcy here today.

The city had borne the brunt of mob fury for three consecutive days after the desecration of a bust of Dalit icon Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar in Kanpur on Tuesday.

Curfew was totally lifted in Osmanabad and further relaxed in Nanded and Hingoli till 1700 hrs and 1800 hrs respectively, as no untoward incidents were reported from these three districts since morning, police sources from the respective district control room told UNI over telephone.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Aurangabad) K G Patil said since the situation here remained peaceful till noon, it has been decided to relax curfew for two hours from 1600 hours to 1800 hours.

Three companies of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) have been assisting the local police in Aurangabad to maintain law and order.

Thirty-nine people have been arrested during a combing operation that was carried out in some sensitive parts of the city last night, Mr Patil said.

In Jalna, one company of the SRPF was assisting the local police, where a few incidents of stone pelting and arson were reported last night. But from today morning the situation is under control, Superintendent of Police (Jalna) Chiranjeev Prasad told UNI.

The situation in Parbhani, Latur and Beed is peaceful and no untoward incident has been reported from there since last evening, police sources at the respective district control room said.
