Check division of anti-BJP, non-Congress votebanks: CPI
Dehra Dun, Dec 2 (UNI) With a view to refraining the Congress from retaining power and the BJP from staging a comeback in the state, the Uttaranchal unit of Communist Party of India today urged regional political parties to check the division of the votebanks of the anti-saffron and the non-ruling parties.
After party's two-day State Council meeting, CPI State Secretary Samar Bhandari said beside contesting its conventional seats -- Nandprayag, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Pantnagar and Ruraprayag -- the party would field its candidates with winning prospects in other seats also.
He said the CPI would endeavor to minimise differences among the Left parties and it expected the same from other parties too.
Mr Bhandari said his party would organise statewide dharnas-demonstrations and public meetings from December 7-10 against inflation and to inform the masses about the 'failures' of both the ruling and the opposition parties.
He declared that the CPI would extend its support to nationwide strike called on December 14 by AITUC and other Central Trade Unions against price hike and ''devastating'' financial policies of the government.
