Chandigarh, Dec 1 (UNI) The call given by Haryana Roadways employees not to ply buses into New Delhi had little impact even as 56 employees were detained at Kundli border while trying to stop the buses in protest against the capital's police slapping challans on them.

Police said Sarv Karmchari Sangh (SKS) president Harnarayan Sharma was among those arrested for trying to stop the traffic on Delhi-Ambala highway. They were taken to Sonepat city police station.

However, the traffic on the highway was running smoothly, police said.

The Sarv Karmchari Sangh (SKS) and the Sarv Karmchari Mahasangh (SKM) of Haryana Trasport employees had given a call for not plying state roadways buses in the Delhi area in protest of ''unjustified challaning'' of the buses. The employees claim that the challan money was not being reimbursed to them by the state government.

Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Transport) Ramendra Jakhu said all the Delhi- bound buses passed through the seven entry points from Haryana to Delhi without any hindrance.

Mr Jakhu said as a precautionary measure, extra buses were pressed into service and more than the usual number of Delhi-bound buses were operated by the Haryana Roadways today.
