ILPA for infrastructure for micro units
Kolkata, Dec 1: Indian Leather Products Association (ILPA) has urged the West Bengal government to allocate land for infrastructure for micro-home units following the tragic fire that killed nine labourers in a leather factory in the Topsia region.
"The micro-home units need a proper affordable place. We have asked the government to allocate land to us so that we can build infrastructure for the tiny units," ILPA president Tapan Nandi told reporters here today at the 19th Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Mr Nandi said 90 member units have taken approximately 60 acres of land at the Bantala Leather Complex and the infrastructure facilities have been completed.
Approximately one acre of land has been purchased for design studio and service centre with central government assistance to the special pupose vehicle (SPV), he said.
The project is expected to come up by March 2007 and it would further supplement the efforts of the manufacturing units, he added.
