Hyderabad, Dec 1 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Health and Finance minister K Rosaiah today expressed concern over the increasing rate of HIV incidence in the state.

Participating at a programme organised on the occasion of 'World AIDS Day' here, he said Andhra Pradesh was one among the six-most AIDS epidemic states in the country, despite the state government and Non Governmental organisation (NGOs) striving hard to control it.

It was high time that all government departments and NGOs unite and fight against AIDS. At present, 5.4 lakh people were living with the disease and 50 lakh HIV positive cases were identified in the state, he said.

Calling upon the citizens to take part in AIDS awareness programmes in the villages and educate the people, the minister said the only solution to stop the epidemic was prevention of the disease.

Launching a week long 'Be Bold' campign and condom promotion programme with a slogan of 'Unda Mee Daggara'(Do you have it with you), the minister called for breaking the silence and talk intensively about AIDS at schools, colleges and work places.

State Director-General of Police Swaranjeet Sen said the police was planning to set up 'anti-human trafficking' centres at Eluru, Anantapur and Hyderabad to prevent trafficking of women and girls.

He said police was taking pro-active measures on policemen to prevent them from AIDS and also to make them participate in the AIDS campaign at village-level.
