Easy wins for Delhi and Chandigarh in National School Games

Chandigarh, Dec 1 (UNI) Delhi and hosts Chandigarh recorded facile wins in the boys Under-17 hockey matches on the opening day of the 52nd National School Games here today.

Delhi outplayed Chhattisgarh 5-0 while Chandigarh blanked Rajasthan 11-0.

The highlight of the one-sided match between Chandigarh and Rajasthan was half a dozen goals by Harinder Singh. Preetinder and Deepinder scored two goals each while Sandeep got one to complete the tally.

The Chandigarh Education Department is conducting the National School Games in hockey Under-17 (boys and girls) and softball Under 14-17-19 (boys and girls).

Chandigarh Home Secretary inaugurated the tournament. Players from 20 different States and Union Territories participated in march past at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium.

Navdeep Singh, who represented Indian Under-17 hockey team took oath on behalf of the participants. DPI (Schools) Ashwani Kumar and Joint Director Sports JPS Sidhu were among those who attended the function.
