CPI for amending law to debar ''tainted persons'' from Parliament
New Delhi, Nov 30 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) today favoured debarring the entry of ''tainted persons'' in Parliament by amendment of the law or enforcement of a code of conduct in this regard through the Election Commission.
''But the Court should not dictate to the legislature on this issue,'' CPI Floor leader in the Lok Sabha Gurudas Dasgupta told newspersons.
Replying to a question, he gave a broad definition of ''criminal persons'', and advocated that the amended law should also define the term ''tainted' which could include criminals, hoarders and black marketeers.
However, he sought to differentiate between criminals and ''political activists'.
The Babri Masjid's demolition is a crime, he cited, without elaborating.
On the government's attempts to reform the financial sector, in particular the Pension Fund, the CPI leader asserted that his ''party has already rejected the modified version of the new pension bill''.
