AIDS awareness to be part of primary schools syllabus: CM

Ranchi, Dec 01 (UNI) Asserting that awareness was the best way to keep oneself away from AIDS, Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda today said a subject of health awareness would be added in the primary school syllabus to make them aware of the disease.

After inaugurating a programme organised to mark the World AIDS Day, Mr Koda said awareness at the primary level was necessary to check the disease.

He said in the next two months the government would open information centres at block level in order to provide health information among the people.

Mr Koda said the awareness programmes should be more focussed in the rural areas as people in those areas were unaware of the disease.

He said the government would start a mobile health clinic for the people living in far areas. A separate medical unit for AIDS patients would also be opened to provide them medical facilities.

Appreciating the efforts of non government organisations, Mr Koda said that government would proide every support to the groups involved in the health awareness pogramme.

Earlier Health Minister Hemendra Pratap Dehati urged the chief minister to strengthen the government's information department so as to reach the schemes to the rural areas, which was later accepted by the chief minister.

Mr Koda also inaugurated the three phase polio catch-up programme which began here today.
