Agriculture Standing Committee to probe farmers suicide in Orissa
Bhubaneswar, Nov 30 (UNI) Orissa Assembly Speaker Maheswar Mohanty today directed that the Agriculture standing Committee constituted by the House will probe into the suicide of farmers in the state.
Mr Mohanty's direction came after the Opposition expressed their displeasure over the statement of Agriculture Minister S N Nayak refuting the allegation that cotton farmer Aalu Sheshadi of Rayagada had committed suicide due to crop failure.
The Minister who visited the villager of the cotton farmer for an on the spot probe into the suicide as per the direction of the Chief Minister Naven Patnaik, made a statement attributing the suicide of the cotton farmer to the family problem and poverty.
The Opposition alleged that the state government was soft pedalling the issue and stalled the business of the House in the pre lunch session demanding a House Committee to probe into the suicide of the farmers.
