Vivus, Rotary Club, HBI offer cardiac care for poor patients
Bangalore, Nov 30 (UNI) The Vivus Group has joined hands with Rotary Club and Heartbeat International, a premier provider of free cardiac pacemakers and medical care, to provide quality heart care treatment to the poor and successfully implanted a pacemaker to a needy patient free of cost, today.
Vivus Group Managing Director S S Ramash told reporters here that a 44-year-old patient, a coolie, was implanted with a pacemaker costing Rs four lakh.
''Coming together of Rotary Club along with HBI will help Vivus Group in its endeavour of providing heart care treatment to poor and needy patients,'' he added.
Vivus Group had got recognition from HBI for being its local Pacemaker Bank, which comprised qualified and experienced physicians, an appropriately equipped and staffed hospital and a local Rotary club. Participating physicians identify patients in need of pacemaker or defibrillator therapy and in case of economic hardship, refer the patient for economic assessment by the sponsoring Rotary Club. After the Rotary Club verified the case, the patient would be approved to receive a new cardiac pacemaker or defibrillator, physician care, hospital services and follow-up care free of cost.
