Sikkim to host the 2006-07 NE Sports Fest in Feb

Gangtok, Nov 29 (UNI) After a gap of a decade Sikkim will host the 21st North-East Sports Festival in February next year.

Earlier Sikkim conducted the festival in 1996.

According to official sources here, more than two thousand sportspersons and officials are expected to participate in the sports meet to be held here from February 24 to 27.

Men and women sportspersons of the North East will reach here to compete for medals in nine disciplines -- archery, athletic, badminton, boxing, football, karate, taekwondo, table tennis and volleyball.

While the competition for athletics will be held at Rangpo Cricket ground, the other disciplines will be held at Palzor stadium Sports complex, West Point School ground, TNA ground, Whitehall Sports complex, SAP Football ground and PNGSS School complex.

The state government has constituted a four-member organising committee under the patronship of Chief Minister Pawan Chamling for the smooth conduct of the festival.

The other members of the committee were-Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs(SYA) P S Tamang as the patron, Chief Secretary N D Chingappa as Chairman, Principal Secretary SYA R S Shresta as the Vice-Chairman and Joint Director K Yougyal as the member Secretary.
