SC stays Tirupati Rural Mandal result announcement in AP

New Delhi, Nov 30 (UNI) The Supreme Court today refused to interfere with the Panchayat election process in Tirupati Rural Mandal in Chittor district of Andhra Pradesh but directed the state election commission not to announce the election results till further orders.

A bench comprising Justices K G Balakrishnan, Lokeshwar Singh Panta and D K. Jain stayed the operation of the state high court orders staying the election to the four gram panchayats in Muthyalareddipalle, Thimminaidupalem, Rajiv Nagar and Tirupati.

The high court had stayed the election on the grounds that Tirupati municipality has been upgraded to Tirupati Municipal Corporation.

The apex court in its order said the election process would go on but election results would not be announced.

The AP State Election commission had notified elections vide notification dated November 15,2006.

The election process has to be completed latest by February 13,2007.
