Martyrs'family members threaten to return medals on Dec 13

Chandigarh, Nov 30 (UNI) The families of security personnel, who died while encountering the terrorists attack on Parliament House, today threatened to return the bravery medals to the President on December 13, if the death sentence of Afzal Guru was not finalised.

All India Anti Terrorist Front chairman M S Bitta, flanked by the widows and other family members of the martyrs told news persons here the martyrs families were agitated by the speculation over Afzal Guru's death sentence and had decided to hand over the bravery medals to President A P J Abdul Kalam if the final decision regarding execution of the death sentence awarded to Afzal Guru by the apex court was not taken by the government before December 13 this year.

Mr Bitta said Afzal Guru's appeal for mercy, the mastermind of the attack on Parliament House on December 13, 2001, and the campaign generated by the fundamentalist groups in Kashmir and other parts of the country has created an uproar among those who had suffered in the aftermath of terrorist activities.

Mr Bitta said that the government is politicising the issue of Afzal Guru's death sentence, awarded by the Supreme Court for his ghaslty crime against the country.
