Laxman, Ganguly should shoulder more responsibilty now: Ayub

Hyderabad. Nov 30 (UNI) VVS Laxman, now that he is the vice captain of the team, and comeback man Sourav Ganguly will have more responsiblity on their shoulders in the Test series against South Africa, according to former offie Arshad Ayub.

Talking to UNI here todaym, Ayub said, ''It's a good move to make Laxman the vice captain. He can play a major role in the Test series and contribute to the team's cause.

''And if Ganguly can overcome the pressure in the initial matches, he can play with much more confidence in the remaining matches,'' he said.

Commenting on the likes of Mohd Kaif and Raina who have been dropped from the team, Arshad said they should have capitalised on the chances they got.

''Raina was not utilising the chances and for Kaif, it is unfortunate to come and go out of the team frequently. Though he performed well at times, he was dropped from the team. It will be a tough time for him,'' he said.

Former Hyderabad Cricket Association Secretary P R Mansingh said Laxman would have to motivate other players as well.

''I believe both Laxman and (Rahul) Dravid will share their experiences to help the team out of current predicament and build a strong team,'' he said.

About performance of the youngsters in the team, Mansingh said ''I am disappointed with youngsters, who did not utilise the opportunties given to them.'' Supporting the selectors decision to call back the seniors, he said ''The selectors have no choice but to call back the seniors. I fully support their decision. I am sure both the experienced Laxman and Ganguly will make good scores.'' UNI XR/DB AJ AY BS1937
