Koirala hails India's efforts in restoration of democracy

Kathmandu, Nov 30 (UNI) Nepal Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala today expressed gratitude for India's continued support in the restoration of democracy and peace process in his country.

This came at a meeting Mr Koirala had with Foreign secretary Shiv Shankar Menon.

Mr Menon, who arrived here on a three-day visit late last night, met the Prime Minister at his residence in Baluwatar today.

Recent political developments in the Himalayan nation and bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed during the meeting, a senior official told UNI.

"Mr Koirala thanked Menon for India's continued support to Nepal in restoration of peace and democracy and also sought more assistance from India for restoration of sustainable peace in the country", Kantipur Television said.

Mr Menon told the Prime Minister that India was optimistic about Nepal's peace efforts.

Indian ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukherjee and other officials were also present at the meeting.

Mr Menon also called on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs K P Sharma Oli this morning.
