HC orders 'A' certificate to film on Rajiv killing
Chennai, Nov 30 (UNI) Madras High Court today directed the Censor Board for Film Certification (CBFC) to issue 'A' certificate within four weeks to Tamil feature film 'Kutrapatrikai' revolving around the assasination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice K Chandru gave the directive, dismissing an appeal by CBFC, challenging a single Judge's order directing it to give 'A' certificate to the film, if the producer cut objectionable portions in the movie.
The bench said it was in entire agreement with the Single Judge's order and the appeal was devoid of merit.
The details of the order were not made available immediately to the media.
Originally, Justice D Murugesan directed the CBFC to grant 'A' certificate to the film, if the producer cut objectionable portions.
Against this order, the CBFC filed the present appeal.
The film producer contended that despite making cuts with regard to objectionable portions in the film, the CBFC did not grant certificate for screening the film.
