Govt asked to give Producer, director of Munnabhai film Padamshree

New Delhi, Nov 30 (UNI) The centre was urged today to confer the Padamshree to the producer and director of Hindi film 'Lage Raho Munna Bhai' for their contribution in popularising Gandhian philosophy and non-violence approach.

Raising a Special Mention in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Shantaram Laxman Naik of the Congress said that the film, which was even screened at the United Nations, has done a lot to propogate Gandhian values so the government should decorate the producer and director of the film with Padamshree at the Rupublic Day.

Mr Santosh Bagrodia of the Congress demanded that that the government should take steps to promote care of geriatrics in the country. Pointing out that at present the care and treatment of elderly population was left mainly to NGOs and volunteers, he said that the government should take measures to develop specialised geriatrics care infrastructure in the country.

Mr Girish Kumar Sangh of the Congress demanded review of the Constitution every 20 years and get it endorsed by the people of the country. He said that intentions of the Constitution framers to make India a secular, socialist, soveriegn democratic republic should be repeatedly reviewed to ensure that it fulfilled their intentions.

Mr Moinul Hassam of the CPI(M) asked the government to take stringent measures to curb the menace of counterfeit currency circulation in the country. He said that anti-national elements were using counterfeit currency to damage the economy of the country, so the government should raise an economic vigilance team to deal with the menace.

Mr Motilal Vora of the Congress expressed concern over the land turning barren due to waste material of Rajahra mines while Mr Tarlochan Singh (Independent) highlighted the plight of farmers whose land has been acquired by the Chandigarh Administration to rehabilitate jhuggi dwellers from the city. He said that farmers were not paid adequate compensation and were dispossed of their agriculture land causing great hardship to them. The government should earmark a special locality in city itself to rehabilitate jhuggi dwellers, he said.
