LOS ANGELES, Nov 30 (Reuters) Filmmaker Sofia Coppola, who won a screenwriting Oscar for ''Lost in Translation,'' has given birth to a baby girl with her boyfriend, French singer Thomas Mars, Coppola's representative said.

The girl, named Romy, was born on Tuesday in Paris, and was the first child for Coppola and Mars.

''Mother, father and daughter are all healthy and happy and in France,'' said Coppola's publicist Robert Garlock.

Coppola, 35, is the daughter of director Francis Ford Coppola, who made ''The Godfather'' movies. She has become famous in her own right by writing and directing 1999's ''The Virgin Suicides'' and ''Lost in Translation.'' ''Translation,'' which starred Bill Murray as an actor who takes an introspective look at himself during a trip to Tokyo, earned Oscar nominations for best film, Coppola as best director and Murray as best actor.

But this year, her ''Marie Antoinette'' won only mixed reviews from critics with its creative use of pop music to tell the story of the doomed Queen of France.

Mars is a member of the French band Phoenix whose eclectic blend of alternative rock, electronic and dance music has yielded albums such as ''United'' in 2000 and ''It's Never Been Like That'' in 2006. Their song, ''Too Young,'' was used by Coppola in ''Lost in Translation.'' Coppola is divorced from her previous husband, film director Spike Jonze.
