Congress urges Governor to take action against two ministers

Bangalore, Nov 30 (UNI) The Congress urged the Karnataka Governor to take action against two ministers who allegedly indulged in violating the model code of conduct during the election campaign at the Chamundeshwari assembly by-elections for which polls will be held on December 4.

Opposition leader in the Karnataka assembly and former Chief Minister Dharam Singh, who took a party delegation to Raj Bhavan and submitted a petition to governor T N Chaturvedi this morning against Forest minister C Channigappa and Primary and Secondary Education minister Basvaraj Horatti.

The Congress alleged that the JD(S) was blatantly violating election code of conduct to lure the voters in the Chamundeshwari by-elections while the ministers were pressed for election campaign to mobilise the support of state employees.

The congress leaders who met governor also demanded to issue instructions to the two erring ministers to keep away from the election campaign who were found guilty of misconduct during the campaign.

Mr Singh told newsmen that the governor was also briefed about violation of election code of conduct by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy which draws reprimand from the Election Commission.

It may be recalled that the forest minister C Channigappa allegedly manhandled a journalist after the Election Commission officials seized his car. The forest minister also allegedly snatched the camera from the journalist and a case has been registered against the minister in this connection.

The Education minister Basvaraj Horatti also facing charges, was holding a meeting of teachers who were designated for election work illegally during the Chamundeshwari by-election campaign.

The minister was to face an awkward position when a group of congress workers entered the premises where the minister was holding meeting of teachers and locked the building outside, only to get released from the JD(S) workers later on Tuesday.
