Two NGRI scientists selected for National Mineral Award
Hyderabad, Nov 29 (UNI) Two scientists of the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) Dr Kalachand Sain and Dr Abhey Ram Bansal have been selected for the National Mineral Award for the year 2005.
According to a release from the NGRI here today, Dr Sain, scientist EII and activity in-charge of gas-hydrates group at the NGRI was selected for the award by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India in recognition of his significant contribution to the field of Earth Sciences.
The award carries a cash prize, trophy, certificate and citation.
Dr Sain had proposed several techniques based on comprehensive inversion algorithms to solve problems related to exploration of hydrocarbons including gas-hydrates and crustal dynamics.
He had earlier received Young Scientists Award and Raman Fellowship from the CSIR and Krishnan Gold Medal and Life Fellow from the Indian Geophysical Union.
Dr Abhey Ram Bansal was selected for the award under the 'National Mineral Award Scheme' in recognition of his significant contribution to the field of Earth Sciences and related field.
He developed a technique for processing and interpretation of non-stationary gravity and magnetic data, which had many applications in oil and mineral exploration.
He had also derived a high-resolution gravity date for the Indian Ocean. It was useful for offshore exploration and understanding the tectonics of the ocean, the release added.
