Seven parties to prepare report on Gujarat riot victims

New Delhi, Nov 29 (UNI) A high-level delegation, representing seven major political parties, will leave for Ahmedabad tomorrow to make an on-the-spot study on the conditions of the riot victims in and outside relief camps in various parts of Gujarat.

The delegation, representing four Left parties, the Samajwadi Party (SP) and RJD will return possibly on Friday so as to raise the issue on the floor of Parliament, CPI(M) Parliamentary Group Sitaram Yechury told newspersons today.

Even after the passage of three years of the riots, over 10,000 affected people were still languishing outside the relief camps, the Left leader said.

CPI(M) Floor leader in the Lok Sabha Basudeb Acharia, who is heading the delegation, said it was still unfortunate that the Gujarat government had not used central grant given for the rehabilitation of the victims and instead returned the funds to the Centre.

In reply to a specific query relating to Wal-Mart's tie up with the Bharti Telecom for business in the Indian retail market, the Left leaders said they continued to oppose ''the back door'' entry of FDI in the retail sector.

''The move will not only displace millions of people but also squeeze the Indian retailors and aggravate the problem of massive unemployment in the country.'' UNI KSA PK BS1919
