Our stands differ, but intentions converge: Karunanidhi
New Delhi, Nov 29 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today said his state and Kerala had differing views on the Mullaperiyar dam issue but both had good intentions and this would help find an amicable solution to the problem.
Talking to reporters after his talks with his Kerala counterpart V S Achuthanandan on the dam issue, Mr Karunanidhi expressed the hope that the talks would neither be a ''mega serial nor be a short story.'' There was no timeframe for the PWD Ministers of the two states who would carry forward the talks after about ten days, he said.
Asked whether he was hopeful of a wayout, he said ''let us think positive.'' Both the states wanted to protect the interest of the their people and this pointed to their good intentions.
He would not agree with a suggestion that the talks held at the Chief Ministers' level were being relegated to Ministerial level and this was a negative signal.
Asked about Kerala Chief Minister's insistence for the construction of a new dam, he said going into the details of their discussion would affect the Ministerial level talks.
To a question whether Kerala's opposition to raising the height of the dam from 136 feet to 142 amounted to defying the Supreme Court order and would set a bad example for other states, he said he was hopeful of an amicable resolution.
On PMK's allegation that DMK was not pursuing the reservation issue seriously, he said the PMK wanted his party to take greater interest.
