Nitish urges Centre to take initiate for common education system
Patna, Nov 29 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today urged the Centre to take initiative for introducing common education system across the country.
Inaugurating the two-day national workshop of Boards and Councils of Schools, Mr Kumar said here that even after long discussion the policy for common education system could not be framed in absence of any initiative by the Centre.
Mr Kumar said his government had taken initiatives but the move adopted by the Centre would have wide impact on the issue.
He said the Bihar government had constituted a commission for common education system to remove the disparities.
The Centre will have to show courage as introduction of common education system was an uphill task, said Mr Kummar adding the Centre will have to extend financial support to the states implementing the system.
Mr Kumar, however, alleged that he was not getting required support.
Mr Kumar reminded the Centre its promises for spending six per cent of the Gross Domestic Product on secondary education, saying the Centre had ignored its assurance.
He said the state government had taken steps to improve the primary education system and 2, 35, 000 teachers were being appointed for the purpose.
He said the school buildings were being constructed and other facilities were being provided to the schools under intergated scheme for development of schools.
His government was also contemplating to constitute an education board for introducing CBSE in the state.
Mr Kumar lauded the efforts of private sectors in improving the education scenario and suggested to remove the disparities to provide equal opportunity to all.
On this occasion, CBSE chairman Ashok Ganguly exhorted called for improving the education level in government schools.
Bihar Education Minister Vrishan Patel and others also addressed the workshop.
