Left slams BJP for starting ''bad precedent'' on Shibu issue
New Delhi, Nov 29 (UNI) Charging the BJP with ''wasting resources and the time of the nation'' by way of disrupting the business of Parliament for its ''sheer political purposes'', the Left parties today said that the saffron party was also distorting the rules and regulations of the institution.
''The BJP has not only created a new precedent by forcing the Adjournment Motion under Rule 193, but also has no moral stnading to talk on the Shibu Soren issue as its own veterans including L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi had been chargesheeted in the Babri Masjid demolition case and the riots that followed in various parts of the country,'' CPI(M) leaders Sitaram Yechury and Basudeb Acharia said.
Addressing a press conference in the precincts of Parliament, the Left leaders claimed that due to the disruption of the Houses by the BJP on ''concocted grounds'', the nation had lost a ''full session'' by way of time.
Seeking to remind the saffron party about its own demand of ''No Work, No Pay'' during its six year rule at the centre, the Left leaders noted that nobody was denying the party a discussion on the issue. ''Besides it created a furore in the Houses when the government has given a relief to the people,'' they said.
CPI National Secretary Shamim Faizi said this was the part of the BJP's strategy to avoid discussions on important socio-economic issues. ''The government has made its intention clear that it wants discussion on and passage of bills like the Tribal Rights Act, the Unorganised Workers Act, 2004 and the Prevention of Communal Riots Bill which have been cleared by the Standing Committees.'' Mr Faizi, editor of party weekly 'New Age', said that since Mr Soren has already resigned, now the Parliament had no reason to take any further action. ''Law should be allowed to take its own course.'' RSP leader and Rajya Sabha member Abani Roy and Forward Bloc's General Secretary Debabrata Biswas said since the BJP lost power in May 2004, the party was adopting disruptive tactics. ''The BJP takes up non-issues to stall the business of the House which simply shows that it is not interested in adoption of pro-people bills and legislation.'' UNi KSa vd GC1701
