HC to Centre: File notice over 'infected' Coca Cola bottles
Allahabad, Nov 29 (UNI) Allahabad High Court has asked the Central government to file a counter affidavit within six weeks on a writ petition seeking ban on the sale of ''infected bottles'' of Thumps UP and Coca Cola immediately all over India.
The writ petition was filed by a local journalist Vinai Mishra.
A division bench comprising Justices R P Mishra and Sanjay Mishra passed this order recently.
Secretary, Consumer Affairs - Food and Processing, New Delhi; Director of Grievances, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, New Delhi; Director of Grievances, Department of Health, New Delhi; and several other central departments have been made party in the writ.
Standing counsel appearing for the Centre accepted notices on behalf of all the departments of the centre.
The court has also issued notice to the Manager, Hindustan Coca Cola Beverage Private Ltd, Ghaziabad.
The petition alleged Coca Cola bottles are dangerous for the health of people, since a lot of fungus was seen in its bottles.
The petitioner claimed carbon dioxide was being used in the bottles of Coca Cola, without disclosing the same.
According to the petitioner, the use of carbon dioxide gas was harmful to public health.
