Dalit workers on rampage in Aurangabad
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Nov 29 (UNI) Activists of various Dalit organisations today indulged in heavy stone- pelting in the city to protest the desecration of the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar in Kanpur last night.
The mob damaged five buses, two of them belonging to the state transport corporation, and caused damage to a number of shops and business establishments in Jawahar Colony, Mukundwadi, Aamkhas, Pundliknagar and Harsul, police sources in the contol room told UNI.
The buses were stoned in various parts of the city including Jalna road and Begampura.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Eknath Budhwant said the police bandobast has been intensified in the affected areas.
A report from Pune said activists of the Republican Party of India (RPI) also staged a 'rasta roko' at various places in the city and damaged several private vehicles and Pune Municipal Transport (PMT) buses.
Two PMT buses were damaged in stone-pelting and a driver of a bus was beaten up by the activists, police said.
A complaint has been registered against RPI workers at various police stations. The number of arrests in this connection was not available, police control room sources added.
