Centre clears two housing schemes for poors in Surat city

Gandhinagar, Nov 29 (UNI) The Centre has cleared two housing schemes of Rs 163.53 crore for constructing over 12,000 houses for slum-dwellers of Surat.

Gujarat Urban Development Minister I K Jadeja told reporters here yesterday that the schemes, launched under Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's dream project Gujarat Urban Development Mission, were sent to the Centre for clearance some time ago.

Mr Jadeja said besides these, the Centre has also cleared another two housing projects under its Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) plan. Under the BSUP projects, another 11,000 houses will be constructed for the slum-dwellers. In total, over 23,000 houses will be built for slum-dwellers of the diamond city.

He said Gujarat, as compared to other states in the country, is leading in clearing and implementing the slum-dwelling projects of the Centre and the state.

Besides these projects, nearly 1,600 houses at a cost of Rs 19 crore will be built for poors in Rajkot city. Under these schemes, of the total cost of each house, 50 per cent cost of the houses will be borne by the Centre, 20 per cent by the state government and 12 per cent by Municipal Corporations. Thus, beneficiaries will have to share only 18 per cent of the house, Mr Jadeja added.
