Baalu approves road repair works in Tamil Nadu

New Delhi, Nov 29 (UNI) Union Road Transport and Highways Minister T R Baalu has approved road repair works in Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs 489.50 lakh for providing paved shoulder between Udumalapettai and Oonjivelanpatti of NH 209 in the Dindugal-Bangalore sector.

The Dindugal-Bangalore road is an important National Highway in Tamil Nadu which connects Dindugal, Palani, Udumalpet, Pollachi, Coimbatore, Sathyamangalam in the state with Bangalore and Chamajjnagar in Karnataka.

A number of textile mills, automobile industries, educational institutions and important tourist centres like Kodaikanal and Amaravathi Dam are located adjacent to this road.

''Because of these reasons, the volume of traffic is very heavy in this road and thus, it is absolutely mandatory to have paved shoulders rather than the hard shoulders,'' the ministry said in a statement here today.
