WBIDC and Fiji to sign trade agtreement

Kolkata, Nov 28 (UNI) West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) and Fiji Islands Investment Bureau will sign an agreement to colaboate trade in pharma, information telecommunication technology, fisheries and various other sectors.

Speaking at an interactive session, Fiji Island trade delegation chief Mr Kaliopate Tavola, minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, said here today that his government has sought technical cooperation from India, especially West Bengal. He also said that their visit was to woo investors from India into thier countr.

" We have met many Bengal ministers including Fisheries minister Kironmoy Nanda. We want to enter into a joint venture with the government to get technical consultancy in this sector".

He said various Indian companies like Taj Group of hotels, Apollo Hospital, Exotica Group of hotels, Bank of Baroda and Asian Paints among others have set up shops in Fiji Islands. He also wanted invesmtnent in forestry, tourism, jewllery and processing industries.

Bilateral trade between India and Fiji had been very little with Rs 132.40 crore in 2005-06 but it was increasing cosiderably, he added.

Fiji was also promoting as investment destination and focusing on infrastructural development and other ivestor friendly services, he added.

The interactive session was organised by Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry in which about ten Fiji delegates took part in the deliberation.
