Shejil Verghese betters his own National Record

Bangalore, Nov 28 (UNI) Shejil Verghese bettered his own national record in 400 M Hurdles for U-18 boys, even as three other new records were created on the penultimate day of the 22nd National Junior Athletics Championship, being held in Sree Kanteerava Stadium here today.

Seventeen-year-old Kerala lad Shejil finished with a timing of 53.14 sec, improving upon his own previous national record timing of 53.63 sec set in the last meet.

Hosts Karnataka boys erased the national record of 2:01.26 sec in boys U-16 medley relay category, created by Andhra Pradesh lads in 2005, when they finished with a timing of 2:00.84 sec.

Sanjeev Rathi of Delhi threw the iron ball to a distance of 18.45 mts to obliterate the two-year-old record of 18.04 mts, set by Kulwinder Singh of Punjab in 2004.

In the Boys U-16 discus throw category, Shiram Singh of Uttar Pradesh threw to a distance of 50.23 mts to erase the two-year-old national record held by Amit of Haryana (49.35 mts).
