Govt should open domestic retail sector to FDIs: Assocham

New Delhi, Nov 28 (UNI) Industry chamber Assocham has complimented Wal-Mart for reposing its confidence in Indian economy and urged the government to open domestic retail sector to FDI.

In a statement issued here today, Assocham Chief Anil K Agarwal suggested that government should open up domestic retail sector to FDIs as instead the overseas retailers are resorting to different routes to capture domestic market.

It would be judicious on the part of Indian government to act on it in a positive manner without any further delay, he added.

Permission to operate in Indian market for overseas retailers will lead to creation of sufficient competition between domestic and their counterpart retailers of foreign land which will eventually create benefits for Indian consumers, Mr Agarwal said.
