CPM seeks govt's intervention on Walmart's ''backdoor entry''
New Delhi, Nov 28 (UNI) Taking strong objection to the entry of Walmart, the world's biggest retailer, into the country's retail sector in a tie-up with Bharti, the CPI(M) today sought the UPA government's immediate intervention to prevent the ''backdoor entry''.
''The tie-up circumvents the set policy guidelines to gain a foothold in the Indian market,'' CPI(M) Floor leader in the Lok Sabha Basudeb Acharia said while participating in a discussion on matters of public importance.
Mr Acharia said Walmart's entry would not only aggravate the existing massive unemployment problem but also squeeze the manufacturers and displace millions of retailers.
Earlier, CPI(M) chief whip in the House Rupchand Pal, Avinash Rai Khanna(BJP), C S Sujatha (CPM), Lal Singh and Manvendra Singh ( both Congress), Rewati Raman Singh and Shailendra Kumar (both SP) also spoke.
