Meghalaya govt and NGOs to visit Indo-Bangla border
Shillong, Nov 27(UNI) Meghalaya government and the agitating Co-ordination Committee on International Border (CCIB), a NGO, have decided to make on-the-spot verification of the fencing work at Dawki in the Indo-Bangladesh border on December 22.
The state government and leaders of the CCIB took this decision today at a joint meeting presided by Deputy Chief Minister Dr Donkupar Roy.
''We have agreed in principle to make on-the-spot verification of the fencing work on the disputed border areas,'' Dr Roy told reporters.
Today's decision assumed significance in the backdrop of the recent agitation launched by the CCIB in protest against the ongoing survey work carried out by National Builder Construction Corporation (NBCC) for fencing of the international border in the disputed areas.
Meanwhile, CCIB spokesperson G H Kharshanlor said the NGOs have also decided to suspend its agitation following the joint decision to visit Dawki.
