Kumaraswamy offers to resign if Cong proved charge

Mysore, Nov 27: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today offered to resign if the Congress proved that JD (S) has brought people from other places to the city to cast bogus votes in the December four Chamundeswari Assembly byelection.

Reacting to KPCC President Mallikarjuna Kharge's statement in this regard, he told newspersons here that the Congress was only known for election malpractices and vowed to prove that it is the Congress who have brought bogus voters to the city. The Government would take severe action against such malpractices, he added.

Welcoming the Election Commission's decision to deploy seven companies of paramilitary forces for election purpose, Mr Kumaraswamy said it would ensure conduct of free and fair elections.

He denied the allegation that his party had been wooing the electorate by providing various articles.

Referring to Shobha yatra at Datta Peeta in Bababudanagiri in Chikmagalur district, he said the Government would act according to court orders on the issue. In case of any violation, the law would takes its own course, he added.

Urging the JD(S) workers to exercise restraint and campaign peacefully, he denied a report in a section of the media that he had justified the incident of JD(S) workers preventing Congress leaders from campaigning in some villages and said everybody has the right to campaign in a democratic set up.

Meanwhile, a contingent of 300 Central Industrial Security Force arrived in the city from Kochi to supervise the poll campaign.
