Kamal Chaudhry appointed as member of PAC of SAD

Chandigarh, Nov 26 (UNI) In an apparent bid to present its secular image the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has appointed Mr Kamal Chaudhry as member of the party's Political Affairs Committee (PAC), the supreme decision making body of the party.

He is the second Hindu to be nominated on the 27-member PAC, the first one being Mr Naresh Gujral, son of former Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral.

Mr Chaudhry, a former Union Minister of State had joined the SAD last month after leaving the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). He had joined the NCP after leaving the BJP.

Mr Chaudhry, a former Indian Air Force (IAF) officer, began his political career with the Congress and represented the Hoshiarpur seat in the Lok Sabha several times. He was a Union Minister of State when the late Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister.

He is the son of freedom fighter and three times MLA and once MP from Hoshiarpur, the late Balbir Singh, who was a close friend of SAD chief and former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
