New Delhi, Nov 27 (UNI) The incidence of vector borne diseases is expected to increase with increase in temperature due to global warming, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal said in a written reply that with the increase in temperature alongside humidity, diseases transmitted by mosquitoes such as malaria, dengue and chikunguniya are likely to spread.

However, the global temperature has risen during the last 100 years by only 0.6degrees celsius.

Regarding the steps contemplated to decrease the hot temperature of the earth for protection of human beings, he said that it could only be part of a global initiative. The United Nations framework convention on Climate Changes have brought all the countries under its forum to discuss the issue relating to environment so that a global plan for dealing with the global warming can be evolved through consensus, he said.
