Films Division connects Kohima to film festival circuit
Panaji, Nov 27 (UNI) The films division of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in collaboration with the Government of Nagaland will hold the first five-day Kohima International Film Festival for documentary, short and animation films from December 2.
Addressing a press conference here today, Mr Kuldeep Sinha, Chief Producer of Films Division said Films Division apart from making films on various subjects all over the country, has contributed immensely for the promotion of documentary, short and animation films through its biennial Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) for documentary, short and animation films since 1990. MIFF has attracted the best documentary,short fiction and animation films across the world.
Nearly, 40 countries participate in every edition of MIFF.
Probably, this is the only documentary film festival offering a whopping amount of Rs 27.50 lakh as the total prize money and around 500 films are screened in various categories during the festival.
Mr Sinha said the Kohima festival will screen award winning films from MIFF and it will coincide with the Hornbill Festival which showcases the rich cultural, economic and social life of Nagaland.
During the festival, a package of award winning films of MIFF since the year 2002 would be showcased. The package include films such as Vietnam Symphony, Zero Degree Separation, Images of a Dictatorship and Truth Commission among others. There will be a package of the best Films Division classics and films on Nagaland and North-East.
He said to encourage the filmmakers from the State, there will be a package of films made within Nagaland. The target group of the festival will be the film buffs, students and any other citizen who would like to see some meaningful cinema, he added.
