Death toll in truck accident climbs to 19

Hosur, Tamil Nadu, Nov 27 (UNI) With six more people succumbing to their injuries, the death toll in the truck accident at Kathiripallam in Krishnagiri District, near here, last night mounted to 19.

Police sources said the deceased included nine women. In all, 64 people were injured in the accident. They were admitted to government hospitals in Denkanikottai, Hosur, and Anjatti.

Eight of them, who were in critical condition, were referred to hospitals in Bangalore for treatment.

The accident occurred when the occupants of the vehicle were returning to their native Aiyur village after visiting a bereaved family at Hogennekkal.

The driver of the truck hit a sand mound on the hilly road and the vehicle rolled down a 50-foot-deep ravine, killing 13 people on the spot.
