Cong says unaware of any move to impose President's Rule in UP

New Delhi, Nov 27 (UNI) The Congress today pleaded ignorance about any move on the part of the Central government to impose President's Rule in Uttar Pradesh.

''There is a definite procedure that has to be followed to impose President's Rule in a State,'' AICC General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi pointed out.

Talking to reporters in the Parliament house precincts, he sought to clarify the observations made by Union Minister of State for Home Sri Prakash Jaiswal regarding imposition of President's Rule in Uttar Pradesh. ''Mr Jaiswal had only expressed his concern over the state of affairs in the State,'' he said, adding that this was ''the concern of every citizen.'' Neither Mr Jaiswal nor the Congress had anything to do with imposition of President's Rule in Utttar Pradesh, Mr Dwivedi added, reiterating it was the Union Government's prerogative.

Asked about Supreme Court directive to the CBI to prosecute BSP supremo Mayawati in Taj Corridor case, he refused to comment on it, saying no comment was called for on a court verdict. ''Whatever the apex court considers proper, it had given expression to its views.'' About some Parliamentarians' comment on the miserable performance of Indian cricket team in South Africa, Mr Dwivedi said no political party should feel concerned about developments in cricket. ''No political party should interfere or make any comment on the developments in cricket. They should leave it to those directly concerned with the sport,'' he noted.
