CMCL to invest Rs 490 crore in new plants

Kolkata, Nov 27: Cement Manufacturing Company Limited (CMCL), a of Century Ply, will make foray into the cement sector with an investment Rs 490 crore in two greenfield cement plants in Kahelgaon, Bihar, and Patratu in Jharkhand.

Speaking to UNI today, Century Ply chairman Sajjan Bhajanka said, '' We will invest Rs 450 crore in the Jharkhand cement plant. This will have grinding cum clinker facility with one million tonne capacity.'' Jharkhand Mineral Development Corporation(JMDC) would be the joint venture partner of CMCL in this project. ''There is a huge lime stone reserve in Jharkhand near Patratu which has more than 60 million tonne lime stone reserve. These lime stones will be utilised for the cement plant,'' he said. The project would be commissioned within two years.

The company is planning to set up another new unit in Kahelgaon near Bhagalpur in Bihar. This would be a grinding plant with one million tonne capacity.

The company would invest Rs 150 crore in this facility, he said.

''We will sell cement produced in these two plants, mainly in Jharkhand, Bihar and partly in West Bengal markets under 'Star' brand which is sold in North Eastern states,'' Mr Bhajjanka said.

The company currently has a cement unit in Lumsnong, Meghalaya with a production capacity six lakh tonne, which would be increased to 10 million tonnes by the end of this fiscal.

He claimed that CMCL is the leading cement manufacuterer in NE states under 'Star' brand.
