A P Pavillion receives silver medal for tourism display at IITF

New Delhi, Nov 27 (UNI) The tourism display at the Andhra Pradesh Pavillion at India International Trade Fair (IITF-2006) was today awarded the silver medal.

Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh presented the award to A P Resident Commissioner C Viswanath at a function in Pragati Maidan.

Andhra Pradesh displayed the replica of world famous Charminar at the pavillion and various other tourist attractions of Andhra Pradesh. The State, which is already number one in attracting domestic tourists, is trying to emerge as an important destination for foreign tourists.

The State Government and Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy have accorded top priority to the development of tourism in the State.

Speaking at a seminar on Andhra Pradesh tourism, organised by FICCI in the Capital he said that the state has a potential to attract Rs 2,000 to 3,000 crore investments in the tourism sector.

The state was awarded a gold medal for being the 'Partners State' of the IITF-2006.

The Pavilion Director Abhay Tripathi said over 300,000 people visited the state pavillion during the fair. fifty stalls were set up in the pavilion and the commercial stalls did a business of about Rs 85 lakhs and corporate stalls received about 356 business enquiries.

Hyderabad pearls, cotton fabrics of APCO and other weavers' cooperatives, carpets, pickles and handicrafts from Andhra Pradesh were special attractions in the stall and they did brisk business, he said.
