NDA delegation led by Vajpayee meets President
New Delhi, Nov 26: A top NDA delegation led by Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee last evening called on President A P J Abdul Kalam to express their concern about the ''soft handling'' of terror threats and national security situation by the ruling UPA government.
The delegation comprising Leaders of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha L K Advani and Jaswant Singh, NDA Convenor George Farnendes and BJP President Rajnath Singh met the President for about half-an-hour.
The meeting comes in the wake of recent remarks by Home Minister Shivraj Patil that atomic power plants, oil and natural gas installations, defence, communications, IT sector, multi-purpose projects and shipyards were vulnerable to terrorist attacks.
The Home Minister had also pointed out that coastal areas were coming under increasing threats from Pakistani-based terrorist groups and the LeT has reportedly decided to use sea route to infiltrate India.
"The discussions centred around internal security," a BJP source said.
Asked if the NDA had offered to back Mr Kalam for a second term, they dismissed the suggestion as 'unfounded' and said no such topics cropped up during the meeting.
''It is an insult to the President,'' the NDA sources said.
