Aizawl, Nov 26 (UNI) Mizoram Food and Civil Supplies minister K Sangthuama ruled odut any possibility of a ''food crisis'' even as hundreds of farmers in the north eastern parts of the state were facing a threat of famine.

Talking to mediapersons here yesterday, Mr Sangthuama said there was no point in fearing for starvation deaths due to Mautam (bamboo lowering), as the state has sufficient stock of rice and daily employment schemes for rural areas would be implemented.

He pointed out that the Centre is giving 50,000 quintals of rice monthly at the lowest possible prices. ''Since this quota is not sufficient enough, the state government is procuring 30,000 quintals at Rs 9.50 per kg monthly,''he said.

The minister also said that 93 new rodent-resistant godowns have been constructed under Baffacos to prevent famine.
