J'khand govt asks Centre to provide assistance to improve NHs

Ranchi, Nov 26 (UNI) The Jharkhand government has urged the Centre to provide assistance, to upgrade various National Highways (NHs) in the state.

Chief Minister Madhu Koda has asked the road transport and highway ministry to increase the bank of sanctions from 2.5 to 4.5, as sanctioned in other neighbouring states and provide special package specifically for NH 75 and NH 75(extension).

Mr Koda had also asked the ministry to upgrade the NH 33 from Barhi to Bahragora of about 333 kms into four lanes.

This four lanes would be linked with the Golden Quadrilateral (NH 2) with the east corridor (NH 6) of the country.

The Jharkhand government had planned to develop fourlane bypasses to reduce the load of traffic on NH 33, 75 and 23 in the state capital in seven phases.

Mr Koda said the seventh phase project of developing bypasses in state capital would be done by the state government and urged the centre to assign the construction of 62,108 kms of road (costing Rs 551 crore) by M/O SRT and H under NHDP.

The state government has also asked construction of similar bypasses in Dhanbad, Hazaribagh, Bokaro, Daltonganj and Chaibasa.

Mr Koda demanded to declare Govindpur-Jamtara-Dumka-Sahebganj as national highway asserting that it would open up a corridor to north-east region of the country by construction of bridge at Sahebganj.

This road lies on north-eastern region of state with a total length of about 310 kms connecting Govindpur on NH 22 to Sahebganj at NH 80.
