CID,Kolkata Police seek sex workers' help to nab criminals
Kolkata, Nov 26 (UNI) Taking a cue from New York Police Department (NYPD) and Scotland Yard, West Bengal Police's Criminal Investigation Department(CID) and Kolkata Police have decided to set up an information network among commercial sex workers in the state.
Kolkata police sources said the move stems from a belief that criminals and terrorists often coming into West Bengal, find a safe haven in red light areas.
''In order to track down the criminals, we will take help of the sex workers operating in various red light areas. We are also appointing call girls to get information about them,'' a senior official of Kolkata Police Detective Department said.
''The sex workers and call girls would be used as informers and be given a monthly payment ranging between Rs 3,000 to Rs 3,500.
They would be entitled to additional cash prizes if cops are able to nab wanted criminals or terrorists based on specific information,'' the official said.
The police would also provide the informers with mobile phones so that they can pass on information to the CID or DD as and when necessary.
The sex workers, involved in the network, would be given initial training to protect themselves from criminals, sources said.
