BSNL starts cell network extension along border in NE
Aizawl, Nov 26 (UNI) The Ministry of Telecommunication has asked BSNL to extend cellular network in bordering areas of northeastern states with the report of existance of Bangladeshi mobile service in Indian territory.
BSNL officials here today said the direction has been issued after reports of mobile signals of Bangladesh was available in some places along the border.
They said permission has already been granted for provision of cellular service in the few towns of Tripura and Asom only along the Indo-Bangla border.
The Centre had lifted the ban on providing cell service in Indo-Bangladesh border for the last few months and BSNL has started work for extending service network in NE states, officials stated.
The presence of signals of mobile operators by Bangladesh within Indian territory was being handled by the Ministry of External Affairs at diplomatic level with the Government of Bangladesh.
Reportedly, a section of Indian businessmen and villagers have been using the Bangladeshi mobile phones and the anti-Indian forces are also using the network, which has become a major security threat.
