Patil, Menon to receive 'Helpers of the Handicapped' awards

Kolhapur, Nov 25 (UNI) Member of Parliament from Karad Shrinivas Patil and Banglore-based Ms Rati Menon have been selected for this year's ''Apang Mitra (friend of the handicapped) and ''Bharari'' awards respectively, instituted by the city-based institution ''Helpers of the Handicapped''.

Chief of the institution Naseema Hurzuk, while announcing the names of the awardees here today, said Mr Patil has been selected for the award for his contributions and help to the institution while Ms Menon has been selected for the award for her grit. Despite being physically challenged, Ms Menon is efficiently serving as public relations officer in the Income-Tax office at Bangalore.

The awards will be presented on December 3, coinciding with the world Disabled Day, at a function to be held at the institution's premises at Uchangaon near here.
