Indian Hindi film introduced fusion in the world:Pt Shivkumar

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Nov 25 (UNI) Expressing his concern over the destructive attempt of fusion over the Indian Classical music, music maestro Pt Shivkumar Sharma today revealed that fusion was first introduced to the world by Indian Hindi Cinema.

Addressing a news conference here prior to his 'Santoor Performance' scheduled to be held at the ongoing Ellora Ajanta festival this evening, Pt Shivkumar said Hindi Cinema first introduced fusion particularly in the Indian Classical music.

However, the veteran santoor maestro noted that the stalwart musicians of yesteryears Hindi Cinema such as Naushad, R D Burman, O P Nayyar, Laxmikant Pyarelal had used fusion to upgrade the classical music to make it superior but never allowed the opposite to happen.

Referring to the growing influence of fusion in all sorts of classical music including the instruments such as tabla, drum, tumba, santoor, he said the spread and influence of fusion is certainly a cause of concern.

Pt Shivkumar Sharma further alleged that the electronic media did not encourage the classical music although it play an important role in preserving the Indian classical music.

Pt Shivkumar advised the new generation music lovers to be open to all kind of music in order to hone their own skill.

The classical vocalist should not hesitate to listen to pop or western music, as he, himself, does it regularly to enhance his skill in Santoor, Pt Shivkumar claimed.
