Mizoram police urges Asom counterpart to end to depredation
Aizawl, Nov 24 (UNI) Mizoram police today urged its Asom counterpart to coordinate operations against highway robbers in a bid to put an end to the depredation.
Mizoram Director General of Police L Sailo here said they have increased mobile patroling along National Highway 54, linking Cachar district in South Asom to Aizawl, to reduce the spate of dacoities.
He also claimed that operations against a Cachar-based gang of dacoits have started on Tuesday in the forest between Saihapui and Phainuam villages in Vairengtei near Mizoram-Asom border.
Two highwaymen were killed and three others captured during the operation. One AK-47 rifle and two handmade guns were also recovered from the spot, police sources added The spurt in the cases of dacoity along the Highways have forced the truck drivers to transport goods during nights as travelling with loaded trucks along some stretches of the NH 54 is prohibited during daytime.
